I made something and it wasn’t terrible

Cooking for other people can be nerve-racking.  My kitchen skills are quite limited so I always worry that I’ll mess up whatever I am making or that people won’t like the dish that I’ve made.

I have pretty simple taste, the food I make for myself (as you may have seen) is very basic which is why it always makes me a bit nervous to cook or prepare food for others.

Thanksgiving and some other things

I know I am a little late in doing a Thanksgiving recap but it was an action-packed weekend and so I am going to share it anyway.

Thanksgiving is definitely one of my favorite holidays and this year was a great one. My immediate family is already quite large (7 of us – now 8, since my brother recently got married) and this year we had some guests old and new staying for the weekend. It was great to have a full house and see my family and all of my friends who were also home for the holiday.

PUMPKINS!

As soon as a hint of fall rolls around, all I want to do is frolic through a pumpkin patch, go apple picking and jump through a pile of leaves. Given the fanaticism for things like pumpkin spice lattes, I think I am not alone in these sentiments.

Wheat Berries

Sundays are usually my food prep days. I like to go grocery shopping, wash and chop my veggies, and I will usually cook up a pot of grains. Normally I make quinoa, it’s easy, versatile and I enjoy it. That way I am ready to pack lunches and or make healthy dinners when I get home late from class or work. The other week I decided to try something different and instead of quinoa and I cooked up some wheat berries. Crazy, I know.

wait, there’s more!

Salad Dressing Fail

Living in an apartment building can be strange. It’s incredibly anonymous yet intimate at the same time. Here are all the things I can tell you about my neighbor whom I have never met: he is a male who appears to be in his mid-to-late 20’s. I am fairly certain his name is Glen (I saw a package one time with his name and apartment number on it, I am not a crazy stalker). We have made awkward hellos in the elevator a few times but never actually spoken. (Side note: why are elevator rides always so uncomfortable?) I am pretty sure we could be friends – he seems pretty social and frequently has friends over but has never invited me…..hrmph. So, I think we could be friends except for one fact. He loves to blast seriously loud music at the most inopportune times. Sometimes it’s rap. Other times it’s classical. The other day I think I heard Louis Armstrong. Glen has a major sound system. And he likes to drive me crazy with his darn music when I am trying to sleep, study, or just enjoy the peace and quiet of my own apartment.

oh yeah, there’s more.

Green Oatmeal

I really like oatmeal. I also really like having something green for breakfast. Dilemma.

Recently, I pulled a sneaky chef move on myself and it worked. I put spinach in my oatmeal. I’m serious.

Come with me on this journey.

wait, there’s more!
