I am currently reading an interesting book that doesn’t really have anything to do with food or nutrition but there was one section about willpower that I thought was particularly interesting and somewhat relevant to wellness and healthy living.
This weekend I went up to the American Museum of Natural History to check out a new exhibit called: Our Global Kitchen: Food, Nature, Culture
It is an exploration of, “the complex and intricate food system that brings what we eat from farm to fork. In sections devoted to growing, transporting, cooking, eating, tasting, and celebrating, the exhibition illuminates the myriad ways that food is produced and moved throughout the world”. [source]
It was a really interesting exhibit and I highly recommend checking it out, even if you aren’t a food/nutrition nerd like me. Just don’t go during a holiday weekend. Stroller City.
If you have been in Starbuck’s recently, you may have noticed that they launched a line of cold-pressed juices in partnership with the west coast company Evolution Fresh. It appears that they are trying to become competitors in the pressed juice marketplace alongside companies like BluePrint and Organic Avenue.
Given my love of all things green, particularly green juice, I had to give it a try.
It has been an interesting few days. I guess when your week starts with a root canal, things can only get better, right?
Many times people assume that because I love nutrition and healthy food, I eat a super healthy diet all of the time. This is not totally true. Although I love green juice, plant-based food and I feel best when I am eating a well rounded, nutrient-rich diet – I am not perfect, nor do I try to be.
I drink wine, I like dessert, and I eat too many snacks when I am sad. No judgment.
For the most part, I am a planner. I guess you could call me “Type A”. I like to be prepared, show up early, and make to-do lists. However, when it comes to train travel, somehow I am always running out the door five minutes late, disheveled, arriving at the station breathless, with my scarf dragging on the floor, and sweating despite the fact that it is 30 degrees outside.
In fact that happened just a few hours ago.
If you are trying to save money and eat right, preparing meals at home is usually the way to go. But how annoying is it when you go to make a meal and what you find is slimy lettuce and mushy tomatoes? The worst right?
These days when it comes to meals, my priorities are that they be:
Let me start by saying that this is not a PSA for vegetarianism or veganism. A few people have recently asked me about the National Meatless Monday campaign…What is it? What’s the point? Why should I care?
Since it is Monday, perhaps today is a good day to discuss.
Monday mornings are rough enough but nothing is worse than facing the day when you are hungover. As a follow up to yesterday’s post, today I am sharing a few ideas on how to help yourself quickly recover in case you get carried away celebrating the Super Bowl.
